Route 1 Brunswick bypass
Limited-access route to Bath woop werd t0ot
last updated 2005-06-01 - still very much a work in progress.
US-1 enters on Old Portland Rd in the SW corner.
Instead of proceeding onto Pleasant St, it departs via the trumpet along a new access road toward the interchange pictured in the NW corner.
The US-1 Connector (exit 28 of I-295) takes a slightly more northerly alignment (we can see pavement from an existing WB lane used as an EB offramp.) into this interchage, and continues as US-1.
For the next mile to the River Rd interchange, the highway runs north of Range Rd and takes a few holes away from the Brunswick Golf Club as it bypasses Pleasant St.
Going east, the road curves around the Riverside Cemetary and along the banks of the Androscoggin, meeting up with the present Mill St alignment.
This removes water access from the boat launch area. I suggest a new facility off River Rd, north of the interchange.
The limited-access nature of the new Route 1 necssitates discontinuing the one-lane auto deck on the bottom of the rail bridge.
A new two-lane bridge will continue from Mill St, which has been truncated by the expressway. (Future mockups will represent this a little better.)
Current Maine St. interchange, complete with congestion and missing movements.
Replace current configuration with a SPUI.
Cross traffic is eliminated, dead-ending Cushing & Swett streets.
