(295) {1} Exit 4 (Ligonia)
last updated 2005-03-17

Exit 4 now.
295 enters from the west corner and leaves in the north.
US-1 bears left off Main Street near the southeast corner, and lives life as a limited-access expressway for about ½ a mile, before making a 90° turn at the interchange, and continuing across the Fore river as the Veterans' Bridge.
The flyover ramp before the southern tip of the US-1 expressway provides truck access to Lincoln st.
Traffic on either route entering the main interchange may continue on either route in the same cardinal direction. Only.

Completing the connections...
I've converted the 295s -> US-1s loop to a flyover, while relaxing the curve on the US-1s mainline. Why was it not built like this in the first place?
295's onramp from US-1s has been tucked in closer to the mainline, making room for the new flyover ramp from US-1n. It's not likely to use that much of the existing pavement, as substantial grading will be needed to elevate it above the US-1s mainline and 295 SB exit flyovers.
This all needs to be accompanied by, at the very least, a southbound auxiliary lane between exits 4 and 3.
The 295n -> US-1s ramp may be a bit confusing, making exit 4 NB very much NOT directional. But to my uneducated eye it appears the best way to get some good distance and diameter to get the height to clear the railroad tracks, and provide clearance around the... oil. tank.
The SB -> NB connections are provided by the Portland Connector, presently under construction, which will link the exit 5 interchange to the next junction on US-1, with US-1A just across the Fore River.
Conceptual signage for the 3-way split on US-1n.
